Growing up I was always a very active individual participating in a lot of different sports and was always aware of healthy eating and good nutrition. My Dad is a Type I diabetic and healthy eating was a natural occurrence in our household. As well as dealing with personal health problems, I was always careful of the types of foods I ate.


I began my post-secondary education as a nursing student with dreams of becoming a doctor, but as I got further in to post-secondary school I realized that my true passion was to help people live healthy, happy lives with a focus on exercise, athletics and nutrition.


After ten years of post-secondary education I graduated in 2009 with a Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology with a background in Nursing. Unfortunately that came with weight gain and a lot of mental and physical fatigue. Not too long after beginning my career I set a new goal, to lose the weight and compete in my first amateur fitness competition. I completed my first BCABBA Western Canadian Bodybuilding show in 2012 and my second in 2013. This began and new path for me as I was now addicted to that feeling of being healthy and strong and I wanted to share and educate people as much as I could, I wanted everyone to feel as good as I did.


Fitness Unlimited has provided me with the outlet to do just that. As well as providing personal training and nutrition information at Fitness Unlimited, I also currently work as a Registered Kinesiologist at Karp Rehabilitation providing active rehab and personal training to individuals with all types of injuries and all age ranges. I have also been playing softball for 25 years and am currently VP of our local slo-pitch league. I love meeting new people and there is nothing I enjoy more than providing individuals with fitness and nutrition education to help them with their future health. I look forward to working with you to help you begin your new path to health and wellness.

Tonya Schmidt

Fitness Unlimited Certified Personal Trainer

I had always struggled with my weight as a child. In high school, I was bullied for my weight, by people I thought were my friends. I became insecure and began trying one different "fad" weight loss program after another with no success.

In January 2012 I committed myself to a program of healthy eating and exercise and by April I had lost fifteen pounds and even more in inches. I began taking in more walking during the day and the gym in the evening. Soon after I incorporated weight training into my regular program and my weight began to creep back up again. Confused and frustrated, I consulted with a Personal Trainer and Nutritionist. I learned a lot, including the fact that I am not doing anything wrong… I was gaining muscle!

I started to look at the scale differently. I stopped letting the scale define me or my success. I felt great! I felt powerful and stronger than ever and I discovered my passion for training. I wanted to learn as much as I could, so in September 2015, I registered for the Personal Training Program and I became fully certified in September 2016. Originally I did this for myself, until I realized how much I wanted to help other people, with the same frustrations and experiences that were a part of my journey. I want to help people feel strong and powerful and that means more to me than anything.

Fitness Unlimited Certified Personal Trainer

I was always a very active child growing up. I played soccer and did swimming lessons from 5-12 years old, and danced the majority of my childhood as well.

When I was 13, my mom took me to the gym with her for the first time.

That summer, I fell in love with working out and got my own gym membership. I would start almost every day by going for a run, and then go to the gym to lift weights.

By the time I was 15, I decided my long term goal would be to compete in a bodybuilding bikini competition. At that point I was still too young, but by the time I entered my final year of high school, I began to prep for my first competition, and finally stepped on stage March 2016.

I graduated that June, and competed in my second bikini show in November 2016.

After my second competition, I had another goal- to obtain my Personal Training certification so I could help others achieve their health and fitness goals. I became fully certified June 2018.

I have been a part of Fitness Unlimited since I was only months old coming to the Kids Klub, and I am so excited to now be a part of the Personal Training Team.

Fitness has helped me in so many aspects of my life, and I truly believe it can help anyone become the best, happiest, and healthiest version of themselves.

JOSH PANAGIOTOU

My name is Josh Panagiotou, and I am proud to say that I am a Personal Trainer at Fitness Unlimited. I have earned my Personal Training certification through the BCRPA, and have worked hard to expand my knowledge in the supplement industry.


I haven't always been fit. A few years ago, at my heaviest, I was 250lbs. That's a lot of weight to carry on a 5'7" frame. After my Dad passed away, I realized just how short life really is. I came to the realization that if I was embarrassed about the way I looked, I had to change now. I gained as much knowledge as I could and went to work. After a few stumbles along the way, I am now 65lbs lighter. I continue to work out six times a week, not only for myself, but to be a role model of health for my daughter. I am working towards entering my first fitness show in the near future.


I have gone through my struggles and know the road blocks that can appear along the way. I am here to give you the knowledge that I have to help you to not only lead a healthier and fitter life, but to attain your dream body. I will bring intensity when you lack the motivation to really push yourself to make the change that you really want. I will show you all the proper techniques for every exercise so you know that you are doing it right and injury will never set you back. I am here for you. I take great pride and pleasure from watching my clients reach their goals. Life is too short and health is too important to keep putting off. Let’s do this now!
